The perfect board gamers cave. Mine was a 4x8 sheet of plywood set on sawhorses in the basement in the old days...

Chockers: Sometimes pronounced and spelt as 'chockas'. A shortened version of Australian slang for 'chock-a-block' meaning that is thing is completely full.

Strewth [mild oath, an exclamation like 'wow'], my cobber [friend, compatriot] Steve must have had 'a few kangaroos loose in the top paddock' [madness, crazy thoughts] thinking that most others on this forum were likely to understand such a term. Still, perhaps he had made too many trips to the bottle-o [retail outlet for alcohol] and had a gutful of piss [was heavily intoxicated] from too much plonk [cheap wine] or too many tinnies [cans of beer] at the time.

How many years will it take before I can have a house and a wargame room of my own...

Ashdoll. This is tough question. The answer depends on whether you give up some amount of gaming time sufficient to enable you to get a job to earn the money to pay for the house. Always a very tough choice.

Col. Ren <salute>

As already mentioned that is a tough question to answer !

Why ?

You get a house
You designate 1 room as a wargame room
You then spend so much time, energy and effort on career advancement etc in paying for the house, you get little opportunity to use it.
A family may then make an appearance so the wargame room becomes a baby bedroom/creche/playroom and time to play wargames comes at an even higher premium, if indeed available at all !
When the family grow and your 'wargame room' once again becomes available to you, do you need it anymore ?
In the intervening years you started playing WDS boardgames on PC, no set-up, no tear down, just save and walk away.

The moral of the story is, I have a house and a wargame room, a wargame table, a large collection of 6mm armies from ECW to WWII and do I use it now......rarely !

Why ? Because I now spend the majority of my free time playing WDS boardgames on PC.

We develop a plan, set our goals and work to achieve them. In the achievement of this, we may have to adapt them, modify them and even place them on hold perhaps. Time and circumstance may dictate how our plans develop and not solely always under our control or at our discretion. The innovative and resilient however will find ways and means to deal with the various hiccups encountered over time. Innovation, resilience, persistence and a passion for wargaming will ultimately present a result. Whether it is the result originally conceived will be dependant upon many variables, the greatest of which will be Time !

I wish you every success in securing your house and wargame room in the future, despite the many pitfalls, Sir.

Here (http://lordashramshouseofwar.blogspot.com/2015/06/) is some detail on one of the best I've ever seen.

As the panoramic picture below shows it is quite a 'room'.

Unless I win the lottery, such things shall remain a dream. Perhaps when my children have left home, I may be able to set aside a small space for such a thing.

Thanks for sharing, Karl and Walt.

I feel I have time and energy but no money in college now, while I may get money but lose time and energy when working and getting married in the future. I need to find a good job in a metropolis, while hard to afford a house with a wargame room there. Just life it is?! Anyway, the desire remains on my wishlist. May you enjoy your wargame room (or boardgames on PC instead)! :)

This is truly fantastic! Look forward to sharing it with folks at work!

Great posts by all! Like many here, I can only lament at the thought of having something like this, but reality is different. 8)
