I have played the historical battle of Chickamauga scenario(s) (#39, #40w) 85 turns, September 19-20, several times as the CSA player. I have also played the small, twelve turn 'Defend the Bridge" scenario (#57, #58w). I have recently been studying the three days of battle: September 18 -20, 1863. The question arises: why doesn't the historical scenarios include the first day of battle September 18th? The actions on that day are an integral part of the battle just as much as the actions of the next two days.

I would be interested in devoting time and effort to developing an expanded three-day scenario of the battle of Chickamauga. I believe it would be a worthwhile project for members of the ACWGC.

Thoughts?

Easy enough to do with the scenario editor.

Traditionally, the accepted dates for the battle were 19 & 20. And so, I took the traditional road in designing the battle. Most would consider the events of the 18th as minor and more about maneuver. But with that said, I hope that someone will take on the 18th and add it to the scenario list. But in my defense, combat that day was very limited.

I believe Scenario 047 already does all this and includes action from September 18 - 20.

Scenario #47 is a meeting engagement that begins at 2:00 pm on September 18th. Both USA and CSA units enter the map as reinforcements. A historical scenario encompassing the three days of fighting would begin with units placed on the map similar to the set up for scenario #57 Bridge Defense and begin by 7:00 am.

I appreciate the efforts of the game's designers and scenario creators. My posts are not meant as a criticism of either. I am only suggesting that the defense of Reed's bridge and Alexander's bridge were pivotal events of the battle. Also, the movement of much of Army of the Cumberland during the night of September 18th were equally important to the outcome of the battle that continued on the 19th and 20th.

Oh Rich, we Scenario Designers deserve an "Oops, missed that one" ... ;)

Now that I am more or less retired from WDS design work and playing the games more, I am running into all kinds of scenarios I forgot I had built! ROFL Its like, "wow, who put that one together? Did Rich Hamilton add in new content? ... No, dummy, you built that one!"
