Not sure if it has been discussed anywhere else (and if so, pardon this post), but the ability to have an enemy eliminated if you melee'd him with friendly units in the 3 hexes in back of the defending unit, and one friendly unit in the front if you won the melee is no longer valid in version 4.05.4. This is if you have the "weak zone-of-control" optional rule checked (which I think most of us play with). I tested this in two of the games (Gettysburg and Antietam) and found this was the case. Contacted Rich Hamilton with WDS and asked if this was a bug in the new version, and his response was:

This is correct behavior. Some code was changed last Fall to correct retreat paths and AI behavior.

What is happening is correct, with the Weak ZOC optional rule selected. If that is not selected them an elimination will occur. The attached file sets that up.

So, this is a documentation change that needs to happen.

If anyone sees something different, please let us know. Otherwise, this is a pretty big change if you are an aggressive attacking style player.

PS. Special thanks to Ed Lytwak of the yanks who first brought this to my attention.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I remember finding out the 3 in the back 1 in the front surrender rule the hard way many years ago playing Corinth. Never made sense to me. Mind if I copy and repost over in the WDS forum?
