Hello to everyone from a proud Georgia native. I am a old codger but very happy to be here as your newest member. I grew up with an early addiction to wargames and had quite the collection of AH titles in High School (I still have them, and more), but I will admit in my small town I didn't find others that shared my interest, which lead to a lot of solo play taking both sides. The good thing is I always won. Friends at the time were mainly into RPGs, it was the 80s so that was the new thing and we spent a lot of time doing that. But I never lost my love of historical gaming. Of course I snapped up the J. Tiller Battleground games when they arrived and played them till my CRT overheated. After that raising a family I traveled as much as possible and got to finally get to every major CW battlefield, usually with my son and often with my wife. So the talonsoft games gave me an appreciation of the ground I was seeing and the events that took place but since I was playing the AI, I generally used them as a way of understanding the events of the historical battles. After college I worked in computer networking and in the Hospitality industry, which meant I had the pleasure and grief of meeting people from all over the world. I spent most of my adult life doing that and retired as an Area Manager of a hotel management group. Heart problems led me to retire early which was a blessing because my wife and I have had the great joy of raising our three granddaughters for the last 5 years now. So that keeps me active. On the gaming front, I found that Tiller had updated his software and WDS had greatly expanded upon the few titles I had played in the 90s. I was hooked again. Now I'm happy to have all the CW, Napoleonic, EAW, Musket and Pike series and many other WDS titles in my collection. I found opponents to play and so have really dived into that for the last 6 months or so which lead me here to you fine people. If you have read all of my long winded summary of my life and gaming experience and are still with me, I hope to get to know you and offer some of you a challenge as an opponent or assistance as a team mate. |

Kent <salute> Welcome to the ACWGC. That was a wonderful bio you penned and refreshing to read such I might add, well done sir. You will doubtless find many here, on both sides of the divide, as opponents, friends and comrades all, in any event. |

Cadet Kent Scarbrough, <salute> It's a pleasure to welcome a fellow gamer from the great Peach State of Georgia! A great place to meet like-minded folks who have a great interest in the American Civil War and enjoy gaming it! We strive to provide a uniform training facility for all new members so that all understand the basics of these wonderful gaming titles from WDS! After graduation from the ATA I will be pairing you up with one of our newer Yanks for a match in the Lt's Cup! Again welcome to the ACWGC! Your Obedient Servant, General Nick Kunz Commanding, Armstrong's Cavalry Brigade, 2nd Corps, AoT Dean of Cadets, ATA ![]() ![]() |

That is the best 'new recruit' post I've seen in a long time. My sincere welcome to you joining the Club. I also retired early (very early due to medical reasons) although I am now officially retired having reached 60 years old. Unofficially, I am still 'working' at solely raising three children (12-17 years old [yep, I started a little late in that field of endeavour]). Maybe in another six years I can finally put my feet up. Enjoy your time with us and I'm glad you've joined the same side as me. I'm happy to provide any advice or assistance and you'll generally find me in the Southern Raiders War College forum for those purposes. |
