Stupid Comment Because of the Drawing of the Caisson in Your Post:
The only battlefield I have seen a caisson intact is at Stones River. I have no idea why that is. About 20 yards behind the guns are the caissons with the guns unlimbered to their front.

Stones River is also the only place to display wrecked cannon.

Stones River is a small battlefield but does have some rarities in my mind.

Actually, the park rangers removed that wrecked cannon display. Perhaps as long as ten years ago. The cannon is still there but assembled and in a different location. Too bad I say!

I could have sworn I saw it on my last visit a few years back. I will have to swing past Murfreesboro next time I am over that direction and solve the mystery :)
