I am very new to the club and to WDS ACW games both. I am interested in these games because I have a third-great grandfather that served in the PA 111th Volunteer Infantry and a second-great grandfather that served with the 15th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. My third-great grandfather was at Antietam and at Gettysburg and was wounded in both battles. My second-great grandfather was at Shiloh, captured at Stones River, exchanged into the Federal parole camp system, and then was part of Sherman's march on Atlanta. He was wounded crossing Peach Tree Creek. I have the Shiloh Campaign and the Antietam Campaign, but have barely scratched the surface of the Shiloh training scenario, which I have put on hold while I play my training game with my instructor.

I have been watching some of the video archive and have been fascinated by learning about the deficiencies of the AI. The AI was not what I (naively) expected!

I look forward to learning much more and engaging.

Welcome to the Union Army, young cadet!
You will find hardtack, dried beef, hard ground, friends and fun in this club. Go for the wins and don't sweat the losses, they all gain you points. Friendship is the spirit of this army! Be warned ahead of time: Watch out for those crafty Seccess and beware of some of the offficers in this establishment. It has been known to have many a young cadet leave here without his fine new accroutrements replaced by some dastardly officer's worn veteran accroutrements., taking advantage of you while they ply you with a bottle of "Red Eye".....BARKEEP!!! A bottle of your finest "Oh Be Joyful" for this young man, a long way from home!

The A/I is a great opponent to play to learn the basics of movement and combat. But A/I will not surprise you or think for itself which is what a human opponent will always be doing. The learning curve against humans is very high and you will lose more than you win against seasoned opponents. But over time the knowledge you gain by just playing will help you and you will find a great balance to it all. The games are ultimately a ton of fun!

Good luck!

Cadet John Gilbert! <salute>

Welcome to the ACWGC, a great place to meet like-minded folks who have an interest in the American Civil War and enjoy gaming it!

What a great story to share with us about your past relatives serving in the Union Army during the American Civil War!

There are a number of current members who had relatives serving during ACW!

Lots of gaming awaiting your arrival once you have graduated from ATA and completed your match against a newer Reb in the Lt's Cup!

Enjoy the tourney of learning how to play these wonderful games from your instructor, MG Mike Letus!

Your Obedient Servant,

General Nick Kunz
