Sirs! Hello! [:D] What has become of the "Tips and Hints" pages? I was telling a friend about how helpful that information was when I was in the club. So I visited the club's main page and clicked on the "Tips and Hints" link and the table of contents came up but when I clicked on a topic I got the message "that the page can not be found." When I was actually in the club...I am retired now...I found those various papers that someone had worked up on tactics, C&C, wagons, melee in column, etc. to be very helpful and I had advised my friend who IS a newbie in the club to seek them out...but like I said, they seem to be unavailable...at least I couldn't find them.

Thanks and I hope this finds you all happy and well...sometimes I miss playing in the ACW but I opted out and don't think the regs permit me to rejoin. In fact...I don't think I am supposed to be able to log in to this board am I? [:0] I should have been purged [B)]

Tom!

It's nice to see you here and I hope you are well. I don't know about that page but I do know that there are vast amounts of useful information available to both newbie and veteran at the Union War College, and I assume the rebs have something similar. Lots of club links can be found here: http://members.tripod.com/garyned/

You retired from the AoC with full honours and in good standing and so you would certainly be eligible to re-join with your old rank and points intact - and indeed you would be very welcome. Have a look at our new HQ (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/a.r.barlow/aoc/XXAoC.htm) and see if we can't tempt you back[:D]

Sir! It is nice to hear from you as well, and that is a very gracious offer Lt.General. I will so visit that link and let you know. Perhaps after a couple of years I am ready to come back. How is my old friend and mentor, General Gast doing these days. I will have to check out the High Command and see who is who and what they are doing.

Thank you for that nice message. I am as well as an old guy of,now, sixty can be I guess...I can still sit up and take nourishment!
<SALUTE!> and all the best to you.

The links didn't work for me either but I could still scroll down and read the articles.

Tom,
General Gast is temporarily on leave due to work pressures but he will be back in a month or two. You'll see plenty of other familiar faces around though. The biggest difference is that we have the XIV Corps back in action, alongside the XX Corps.

If you right click the links and choose "Properties" you will see that the links refer to an old Geocities site and this page now resides on the www.wargame.ch site. That would explain the broken links. As Ned said, you can still scroll down and read these very helpful hints as they are all on the same page.

I noticed in the Tips and Hints the description of melee in column is such that it encourages it. Given the general feeling in the club as discussed in many previous threads I think a warning should be included that it is often considered bad form except in certain circumstances, and explain what those are. A newbie can get a bad rep quickly without knowing why from those instructions.
