Clicking on the "Show topics from the past year" certainly doesn't cut it... Some seem able to pull up topics from years past at will. Also, they have an ID number.
Will someone please explain or direct me/us to a site that explains how to find a specific post? Is there a keyword(s) feature? Even my search engines have some ability to find these archived posts from other years.
Just the result of having matured during the typewriter and calculator years...[:)]

Sir,

At the 'All Forums" page on the far right of a forum you will see a folder with an 'A' in it. Clicking on it will bring up the archive topics.

As well when you perform a search, check off the archive box at the right of the 'search in' line.

I hope that this answers your question.

Pierre,

I knew that already, but the archives go back only 2 years. What has happened to the older posts? Deleted?

Sir,

There is no additional archival information then what is available through the site. There were numerous forum software changes over the years, due to various reasons, all previous data could not be imported and unfortunatley is no longer available.

I hope that this answers your question.

Sirs:
So does that mean on the rare times I might score a pin in debating BG McDaniel, it is likely to be erased in two years? (he is very good, often holding his own, even while taking opinions sometimes seemingly difficult to defend[:D])....I don't know if I should find comfort or frustration in such a thing.
