Gentlemen,

I'm working with a new machine and installing games as I go (that is, as files come in for current games I have going). I have Corinth v1.01 installed. I'm now trying to install a second version of Corinth, to which I will apply the v1.03 upgrade, but I can't get it to install.

The first folder I renamed to "Campaign Corinth v 1.01". But when I try installing a second copy I get an error saying "Installation failed". (The Autorun doesn't seem to do anything. I go to the disk and try to run the install.exe and this is when I get the error message.)

I'm running Windows XP Pro.

Any ideas? (I now have TWO opponents waiting on files from me, with a third in the wings [V] !)

As long as you have that first install in there it won't install again no matter what you named the folder. I believe it has something to do with the registry. What you need to do is make a copy of the 1.01 install and name it how you like and then delete the original install. Then you will be able to install it again and patch to 1.03. That's how I did it if I remember correctly.

General Nelms,

When you say 'make a copy of the original install', do you mean copy the folder to an entirely new folder, the delete the original folder?

Gen. Mallory

I've never done it with Corinth, but I have with eckmuhl, so it should be the same.

First of all, start with a fresh install of Corinth... either entirely unpatched, or patched only so far as 1.01

Then, make a new folder, called something like Corinith 1.01.
Copy and paste the contents of the Corinth folder to the 1.01 folder. (don't try to install, just copy/paste)

Create a shortcut, and drag it to your desktop.

then patch your Corinth that is in the "regular" spot up to the current. Just remember which shortcut leads you to which game, and you're good to go :)

I have 3 different Corinth installs. One is named from the install, the other 2 were simply copied to another folder and patched to 1.01, then the mod applied. The original install was patched through the latest patch.

I named the new folders Corinth_mod1 and Corinth_Mod2 (very creative thinking). Make sure you rename your shortcuts to the correct mod.

The reason you can't do another install, is due to registry entries from the original install.

Gentlemen,

I think I have it now. I was able to get the new version installed and to bring up the games. I think I'm 'good to go'.

I already had v1.01 installed and going. I created a new folder with a similar name and moved all the contents from folder into the second one, then deleted the first folder. I think I still had problems at this point, so I went through the 'Add/Remove programs' and deleted the original program. Then I started up the v1.01 to make sure it still worked and it did.

Next, I reinstalled the program, to a v1.03 folder, then applied the v1.03 updates. I then started a game to make sure I had the correct version there. (The 'About' pull-down verified this.)

Finally, I applied the units and leaders files I like into the 'Info' subfolder, and started another game to set my defaults the way I like them (Initial view, Ask before Advancing, etc.).

It's too late tonight to get to the two Corinth games I have waiting, but I think I should be in business for tomorrow! (Maybe I can get to some others, too, if I'll take a night off from Administrative duties!)

Bartender, a drink for these fine officers and their good advice. (Er, you might not want to mention to them that I'm now going to use this newly-upgraded game to tan the hides of a couple of their fellow Union officers [:)]!)

Thanks, guys.
