This weekend I got the opportunity to see firsthand the Shaw Mememorial, commemorating the 54th Massachusetts, at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. A beautiful sculpture indeed. I believe the one by the Boston state house is a replica. I saw that one when I was 6 so I am too young to really remember it. The photograph in the link you sent is significantly smaller than the the bust exhibited at the National Gallery. Lt. Col. Brad Slepetz 1/4/III/AoG

Yes, the one in Boston Common could very well be a reproduction, but it is huge. I searched Shaw Memorial looking for a photo that showed someone beside it...needless to say there was none. LtG. J. Cuneo, CSA Commanding, Army of Alabama
