Rookie questions.
Just started getting into campaigning.

How are the braches determined? Is it a simple cross index of what I choose and what my opponent chooses or does one side make the determination unilaterally?

How is the result of the previous battles factored into this?

I assume losses have no effect on which battle comes next but does effect the size of the forces in that next battle ?

Is the command structure in future fight altered because of leader casualties?

I understand that the branching can be viewed somehow-where is this located?

Thanks guys

Have a look at a large campaign in the campaign editor. One of the four .exe files you will find in your main game folder. I can't recall the name, but two are the main game and campaign executables and one is the scenario editor. The fourth is the campaign editor. Open an existing campaign and click your way through it, it will become more obvious then than by any long explanation. But briefly, yes, it's a matrix of your decisions and your opponent's. So for instance if you get three choices, C1, C2, C3, and your opponent gets two, U1 and U2, you end up with six possible outcomes, U1C1, U1C2, U1C3, U2C1, U2C2, U2C3. Usually the associated scenarios also have these codes in their file name. Losses carry over, but have no bearing on the decisions.

Just to add to the process.

Depending on the design, your next round of choices might depend on the outcome of the first engagement, with different results sending you different places, or you could end up in the same theater regardless of the outocme, but with the side that won gaining a "strategic advantage" with the resulting scenarios in the next round being more favorable.

If you want to experiment a little with this, play a campaign against the computer (or yourself) and check the "expected values" box in the dialog -- that will "randomly" determine the winner of each scenario and move you on to the next set of choices, allowing you to go through an entire campaign in a few minutes. Incidently, I have found the "expected values" coded into the campaigns highly suspect and don't believe them. But it is an interesting thing to watch at least once.
