Post subject:  Campaign Peninsula Background

Gentlemen,

I have just bought this game and have been poking around a little bit looking at the maps and scenarios. Looking at the big 400+ turn seven days scenario, I was a little surprised that the map was not larger. I'm not an expert on this aspect of CW history, but I was kind of expecting a fight up the peninsula towards Richmond. The game appears to have the Union already at the gates. Anyway, I guess my question is for those who have played this, is this a union or reb attack (or both) and is there enough room for maneouver here? It appears that most of the avenues of approach are constrained. And most of all, is that a fun scenario?

Thanks, for any input.

Yes, "Campaign Peninsula" is a misnomer. It should better be called "Campaign The Seven Days".

I am still hoping for HPS to release an expansion pack covering the fighting further down on the peninsula with a larger map, etc.... Would have been nice to start the campaign down there [:D]

Unsatisfied by this title, I'm working to build up a best game on the subject.
I nearly completed all the maps from Ft. Monroe up to Richmond, I'm using the Corinth engine to do that.
The problem is that I've not good OOBs up to regiment level.
The Union's OOBs are often confused and with lack of informations, while the Confederate's one are usually absent.
May you help me suggesting where to find good OOBs for this subject?
I whish to start this campaign from April 5th to July 25th 1862.
Any help is very welcomed!

Sear's book lists the organization of the armies at Yorktown but unfortunately does not give the size of the regiments.

Well... it's better than nothing.
Sizes may be calculated with some other source I've.
There is any way you may send a copy of it?
It will be very usefull for me, Kennon.

Hi,
I tried playing the Seven Days scenario against General Kelly Ross. What I found was that the Reb entrenchments weren't much better than the woods. My lines were overwhelmed before Jackson could arrive after Gen Ross moved the V Corps across the river to support his other corps. I think the 331-turn Beaver Dam to Malvern Hill scenario might better model the Seven Days than the Seven Days scenario because Jackson's men start arriving immediately.

Simone,

I've looked for good numbers earlier in the Peninsula Campaign than the Seven Days myself, often with pretty mixed results. I figured now would be a good time to post that info since you are looking for it anyway. Go to: http://www.brettschulte.net/OOBs/SevenD ... nDays.html

Scroll to the bottom and download the zip files. Regretfully, at the time I was compiling these unit strengths, I did not mark down the sources I used, but most were from campaign studies, regimentals, or found online.

EDIT: Looking through the material, it looks like I did source some of it. It's not complete by any means, but it's a good starting point for you.
