Officers of the ACWGC:

Coming February 15th, the ACWGC will have a new Department of Records (DoR) !

Like many of you, I have experienced the frustrations from recent outages of the DoR. After patching things back together several times last year, the Cabinet decided to examine the possibility of creating a new DoR.

The Cabinet eventually concluded that rather than struggling to maintain and update the current DoR, it was more reasonable to create an entirely new DoR using a modern and more reliable MS Office-based internal operating system through a new hosting site. Accordingly, the Cabinet voted unanimously to retire the old site in favor of a new one.

Don’t panic … all of the files, game records, and information from the retiring DoR will be maintained and continued in the new DoR.

Gen Blake Strickler (GinC, CSA) has created and will manage the Club’s new DoR. This new site is a fabulous piece of work that does everything and more than the old site. The notable difference is that the new site uses some manual data entry, but this is at the administrator level which will not impact users. Gen. Strickler has shared the ownership rights of his ACWGC.net with me (as the Club President) and I will help ensure the site stays online and active should anything happen to Gen. Strickler out there in the real world.

Each of you will also receive a tutorial video about the website later this week and I encourage all officers to explore the new DoR when it becomes operational. I believe you will find the new DoR to be well-designed, highly informative, visually attractive, and easy to navigate. More importantly, its new format smoothly accommodates upgrades, expansions, and other edits to meet the Club’s future needs.

If you have questions, concerns, or suggestions for the new site, please contact your Army Commander.

I will see you on the field !

There will be more information sent out to all Club Members in a few days about the new DoR and how it works. The new site is really quite simple and should be very easy to learn for everyone here.

Attached below are a few screenshots of the new DoR.

Image

The DoR homepage will make it very clear where to register games and where to find additional information.

Image

There will also be brand new features in the DoR such as a running win/loss comparison for the active members of the two sides.

Image

The OOB's for the two sides will now include much more information than ever before.

Image

Registering games will follow much the same process as always - except now you will only register your game once it is COMPLETED and not when it begins and when it ends.

Image

You will be able to quickly choose the scenario you just completed - same as always. You will also have a separate clearly marked dropdown list for user-created scenarios such as "Struggle" and "Stonewall at Gettysburg."

Image

Finally, you will receive a confirmation pop-up when your game registration has been successfully submitted.

Overall, the new DOR will be a great new tool for the Club. I used the old DOR as much, actually probably more, than just about anyone else. I will miss the old site. But technology and times change - unfortunately the old DOR, which served us very well for so long, just could no longer keep up. But do not worry. The new DOR will pick up where it left off and keep us chugging along in our seemingly never-ending Civil War.

Will the current reports still be available ?
Specifically the
Army Games Report
OBD Summary Report
OBD Detail Report
Inactive List
Individual Player Game Report

Over the years I have created several Excel files that use these reports to provide data for the Army Monthly Reports and to assist in updating the Union webpages.

Hi Ken,

I sent you an email with some more detailed answers.

For anyone else curious - the short answer is "yes." These reports will largely be available in some form or another in the new DOR.

A big THANK YOU to all who have worked trying to keep the old DOR alive and to those who have created the new one. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.

Thank you to The Cabinet for all your hard work on the club. I'm amazed that you find the time for all this.
