Anyone a fan of the Gingrich trilogy? Although I enjoy Jeff Sharrah's novels, they seems to leave something of the "human element" out of them. These feel like a bit of fresh air. Of course, when you compare all Civil War fiction to Michael Sharrah, it seems like everybody comes up a little bit short.
I feel these read like a novel instead of historical fiction.
Like the authors, I agree that Lee would have most likely have hoped for a political victory instead of a military victory. Even have won at Gettysburg, Lee would not have had the military might to take Washington, in my humble opinion.

Newt Gingrich has at least one big advantage over Jeff Shaara: he's a lot better writer. I do not know how much of that is due to Gingrich's co-author, but it's true nonetheless.

Thanks, Jason and Dwight!
I had been holding off on purchasing this one, but you both convinced me to take the plunge.

Scott

My pleasure, Scott! I dont know how much you are into audiobooks, but the reader of this trilogy is pretty good. His southern accents leave a little to be desired, but after awhile, you recognize the character by the voice he uses.

Dwight, I also am not sure about his co-author. The combination of the two is pretty amazing though.

Steve, Michael Sharrah set the bar so high for Civil War historical fiction that is doubtful anyone will ever come close.
