I can't find any reliable reviews of that work although it appears to be an easy to read broad overview of the conflict. In a preview of several pages that I saw there's a table on page 20 (Men, Money & Material) that seems to sum up the huge task facing the CSA where it lists the Union advantages in various areas including: Potential Soldiers (Advantage 390%); Industrial Workers (1,000%); Gold (210%); and Industrial Output (1,100%). Despite appearing to be a broad overview it does appear to cover some battles in detail with lots of maps [I like that] and diagrams on other things. It was interesting to see that the [small] Battle of Ball's Bluff was one covered in detail although some aspects (e.g. casualties) differ from other accounts I've seen. There doesn't appear to be any references in what I saw so it's difficult to see where the author got information on that battle [perhaps there's some detail on that elsewhere in the book]. |
