If you have an interest in the Eastern Front then the book "Stalin's Favourite, The Combat History of the 2nd Guards Tank Army is an excellent read. It is well cross referenced with German sources and it does not hide any of the armies failings, it is warts and all. Plus it has good detail on those army members who won bravery awards. The first book covers Kursk to Berlin: January 1943-June 1944 , the second book which I have yet to get covers From Lublin to Berlin, July 1944-May 1945.
