The King's Speech is easily one of the finest films I have seen in the past few years. It rightfully won the Best Picture Academy Award for 2010 along with the Best Actor Award for Colin Forth. The film tells the story of King George VI and his speech problems as a young man and adult. These speech problems threatened to make him, and the UK, look weak at a time in history when Hitler was making powerful speeches against the UK. The film follows the British monarch as he meets with a speech therapist, played by Geoffrey Rush, and begins to slowly confront the speech problems from a physical and psychological standpoint.

The acting throughout the movie is top notch. There are many well-known character actors in this film (the character actor being a dying art in my opinion) who lend their abilities to every seen in which they appear. The historical backdrop to the film is based on the actual events of the 1920s and 1930s though some artistic license was taken to make the story move along - though this takes nothing away from the film as a whole. Costing just 15 million to produce the film has gone on to gross over 415 million at the box office and in sales. This movie reaffirms my belief that good acting and a solid story outshine all the computer effects of Transformers. I highly recommend this movie to one and all.
