General Hill,
you have a good point but I don't think that it is unfair. In the 2nd HACW, the players will be limited to one game at a time; the junior officers will be able to play many short scenarios while some of the senior officers are fighting on a single long scenario. This way, all the participants can have an important role in the tournament, by playing many small engagements or by winning a major battle.

The main point by instauring the minimum rank requirement is to have experienced players fighting the major battles.

A solid veteran [^] will still have the possibility of having fun by beating, destroying, crushing and humiliating a poor Fld. Lieutenant [B)], but he will not find this kind of inexperienced commander at Antietam, Chickamauga or Gettysburg. I also know that some junior officers are really good players and they will have the chance to show their talent against experienced commanders but only for small scenarios.
Please note that "small scenarios" include all the battles counting for less than 50 points in the tournament; 1st Bull Run and Franklin are in this category.

I think that seniority with the club is important and that the veterans should be rewarded by having the privilege to play the major battles in the tournament.
When you take a look at the Battlefields table for the 2nd HACW, you can see that many great scenarios are still available to junior members: 1st Bull Run, Wilson's Creek, Fort Donelson, Pea Ridge, South Mountain, Perryville, Salem Church and Franklin are examples.
Presently, only 10 of the 85 battles are considered "Major Battles" and are reserved to the Brigadier Generals and up.

To conclude, I'm sending this message to all the relatively new members of our great Club.
The 2nd HACW is expected to start in the spring or summer of 2007; you have many months to obtain promotions that will allow you to fight in the medium scenarios. To the Colonels and Lt.Colonels (as myself), you will have to reach the rank of Brigadier General if you want a chance to fight at Gettysburg.

One thing is sure: there will be action and fun for all the members of the ACWGC.

See you soon on the various battlefields of the 2nd Historical American Civil War...

P.S. link the to the 2nd HACW Battlefields table:

Note: new scenarios will be added to this list (Campaign Vicksburg and maybe others) [:p]

Major Victory for the Confederacy at Prairie Grove !!!

CS MG Sean Turner received the surrender of the Union forces from US LG Bob Breen.

Congratulations to MG Turner who will receive the CSA 1stHACW Veterans Medal.

Eight battles still in play, but I suspect that 2 or 3 games will not be completed.

The updated score for the 1stHACW:

Eight battles are not completed. (Valverde, Glorieta Pass, Cedar Mountain, Salem Church, Chickamauga, Wilderness, Resaca and Franklin.)

I have contacted the players to see if these games are still in play or if they will be cancelled.

The 1st HACW should be concluded in MAY or JUNE 2007.

Thank you.

The battle of Resaca is now over. The Union under the command of Lt.Gen. Michael Dowling achieves a Major Victory.

The Cause is almost lost for the Confederacy... [V]

I will say it again and keep saying it, what a GREAT JOB you have done with this tournament! I along with most members look forward to the start of the 2nd HACW Tournament!

I know that putting this thing on is a HUGE effort and you have learned many things and I believe have made improvements to the format. If I may, please consider some kind of a time frame for the conclusion of each battle or the tournament itself as we have had to wait months too long for these last few battles. I realize that real life somethings interfers with our play, I mean historical battle recreation, but should so many suffer for so few!

Respectfully,

General Kunz,

thank you again for your encouragements.

Concerning the never-ending battles, here's one of the rules for the next tournament:

" 8. (New rule) Each battle will have a time limit. Battles that are not completed before that limit will be ignored and no points will be allowed for them. Players can request an extension if they are not delaying the end of the tournament. "

Prepare your weapons, train your men and get ready.
There is a good chance that the 2nd HACW will start on July 1st, 2007.

If my reports are good, the only battle still in play is Chickamauga.
Even if the Confederacy win this battle, the Union will win the war. [:(]

I need the final result at Chickamauga to calculate the handicap for the 2nd HACW. As soon as I receive my CD of Campaign Atlanta, I will add the new historical scenarios to the battlefields list of the 2nd HACW.

See you soon for the second Historical American Civil War.

Hourra !

My CD of Campaign Atlanta is here !!!

18 historical scenarios from this title will be added to the 2nd HACW tournament. Wow !!! Great work from HPS and the designers.

As we already had three scenario from the ACWCO (Rocky Face Ridge, Resaca and Kolb's Farm), we have 15 more battles for the second war.
And with the addition of Campaign Vicksburg... this war will be longer, tougher and many soldiers will fall on the battlefields.

Harold, you are killing us! You keep adding to this wonderful tournament and yet we can't get started with it like Gen Corbin is clamoring for!

What I would really like to see is the 2nd HACW Tournament get started during next month's celebration of our 10th Anniversary! Maybe we need to send a mob over to the homes of our two late participants to see if we could get them to wrap this thing up!

General Kunz and Corbin,

The 2nd tournament is supposed to start July 1st (Anniversary of Gettysburg).

Tell me the date of the 10th Anniversary of the ACWGC, I will check what I can do...
