I also agree with Col. Hayes. If that was the best that could be done the films should never have been made. Gettysburg was marginably watchable, but Gods and Generals was an horrifically bad film. After a few minutes of watching it, I keep expecting so see the guy from Monty Python's Search for the Holy Grail following along behind Jackson clapping coconut shells together.

I think that those novels would have been best done as a miniseries like HBO's "Band of Brothers". And I hope some day they will, though Turner's misguided attempt may foul the waters for Civil War movies for years to come.

Yes, the HBO idea sounds best. And to take it a step further, consider Jeff's other historical novels covering other parts of US History. I know he has one on Mexican American War, WWI, and I think the revolution, plus maybe others to come.
