D.S. Walter and I conducted a "training" game with me commanding the US forces. My strategy in this scenario, because the Brit forces had better men was to take a gamble and try some trick manouvers. As the Brit column marches up the main road I hid 2 regiments in the woods on his left flank. I hid all my cavalry in the woods on his right flank. Walter see's my main US line deployed behind a fence in the clearing. He deploys into a battleline and starts to advance. One trick he does is to send a regiment via the woods on his left flank to try and get behind my battleline. This forces stumbles into one of my two regiments hiding there. Subsequently that regiment get's mauled. I decide to launch my other undetected regiment into rear of his battleline before they are discovered too. This shakes him up a bit but he recovers and almost surrounds my regiment. Now my cavalry comes storming out of the woods on the opposite side of the field and captures approx. 4 of his guns. Suprisingly this gives me a Major Victory on points but the game is still early. I manage to pull back about half of my regiment and most of my cavalry from a vicious firefight behind his battleline. Walter keeps one regiment back to watch for my now retired raiding force. Wouldn't you believe it that I stumble on to his 3 supply wagons! Walter keeps advancing. My main line soon is breached in numerous places but doesn't totally colapse. I manage to fire and retire back off the field. During this retirement Walter is itching for revenge and manages to capture 1 of my guns. The end result is both sides are totally exhausted. The fighting is scattered through the woods. D.S. Walter has managed to change the score from a US Major victory to a draw. I have to commend him for it. With only one artillery piece left, 3 congreave rocket units, and no supply wagons he has managed to reverse my success. I salute you sir! Thank God he's on my side in the club!!! I have to thank Terry Lubka for a most challenging fight in which I have learned a lot - above all always to protect my guns! He employed some of the most cunning moves I have ever seen. His troops appeared to be about everywhere. The reversal from near US Major to Draw was only possible due to 1) a piece of sledgehammer tactics of my own, namely scraping together my last five intact companies and hammering them into his center like a ram, hoping that some would survive undisrupted in order to charge the guns - which was desparate, but worked; and 2) sneaking one company around the entire map which took the 100 pts objective in his rear in my last turn. <br> I, too, am glad he is on our side ... This was about the training game I needed. BTW, this maneuver was conducted in the traditional four-phase format. Sgt. Walter 4th Regiment "King's Own" British Army (1812) |

Yeah, I even sent one after them, posting them in full view of the objective, in order to divert your attention - which worked, but the price was that you captured them all <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> <br> However, the whole thing was a mere improvisation ... They routed into the forest, and once they rallied, they were so far away from their regiment, I just marched them further away in the hope of finding anything worth of capture on the way! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> Sgt. One should always watch out for devious British moves. They are so untrustworthy! Actually, I think Mr. Walter may have learned the "take the rear objective on the last turn" at the hands of a colonial during the recent tourney - if I remember correctly.
