Post subject: | Game Review - GMT's Prussia's Glory |
Found at: http://www.gmtgames.com/nnpr/main.html I played through some of GMT's Prussia's Glory last night (til 4am!) and found it to be a decent game provided you go to their site and download the Living Rules - new format version. Using the stock rules that came with the game or even the newer version on the Living Rules page (the top choice) made for a confusing game to understand. If you are considering this game its a good buy. As the Designer says its not Napoleon's Last Battle (quad) by SPI - its got some meat to it. Units are brigades and sometimes individual regiments or other unit type. Artillery is per battery. And of course there are leaders. Its got army morale and commitment rules. Hard ZOCs - engagement rules are a bit daunting to understand for what is supposed to be a 4 on a scale of 9 in difficulty. (basically the lowest tier of the Medium difficulty). There is a Cyberboard module for all four of the battles - Leuthen, Zorndorf, Rossbach and Torgau. The graphics are the usual good GMT standard. Box is heavy duty and will last for years. Mike Cox and I are playing the game soon. I also have another game starting soon with a friend from my former boardgame days (we used to play the SPI Prestags series!). I plan on putting up some sort of website for the game based on one of those games. I will try and explain how the game flows and so on. Its a decent title and seems easy to learn provided you use the new format rules. I have alot of GMT titles and they are not the greatest when it comes to structure of rules. I have often liked to rewrite their rules so that they are easier to understand. They rarely provide enough examples that cover the bases. This game is no different. However, there is such a large following for their games that you never lack for opponents (PBEM via Cyberboard) and the folks are there to help you with rules answers. If any of you have the game let me know. I would like to hear from more folks on how the game plays. I was able to get through ONE Prussian player phase last night. I now plan on going back and reading the Living Rules - new format and see if I can gain a more thorough understanding of the system. |
