OK, so artillery is quite useless in the EAW games, except for annoying the enemy when he is moving up over an open field. So what. It is in the ACW games as well. (Oddly, it's quite effective in the Nappy games.)

What I still don't understand is why it dies automatically in the EAW games when it's being meleed. In the other series's, as a rule you have to win the melee to take out guns. In the EAW games, chances are at least four to one you take out the guns in a stack even though you lose the melee against the infantry.

Naturally, this lends itself nicely to quite odd tactics--suicide melees against vastly superior stacks can still be profitable if you just get those guns stacked with the infantry. You can lose a lot of infantry for 20 VP, and it's very rare that the attacker loses more than 5-10 infantry in a failed melee.

Does anyone find that remotely historical? [B)]
