Post subject: | History Channel Documentary on Cowpens |
I **finally** saw the history channel show on Cowpens. I believe it was named under the series called the American Conquerors. It was a good treatment in one particular regard. It pointed out that because of the marshy ground on the British left, and the thick undergrowth on the British right, Morgan had picked a battlefield where the British pretty much had to come straight at him ... no extravagant flanking maneuvers through the woods! That is why I produced the Cowpens_c scenario... with 1-man British and American lookouts through the forest. These small units don't prevent an incursion into the woods, but they shout an alarm (just before they die!). They are FIXED in their position, and located so that the enemy can travel in the outermost hex without being seen by the sentries. Cowpens_c doesn't have a "home" on the scenario download page yet, but if anyone is interested in seeing it or testing it, just drop me a note and I will send you the zip file. The part of the documentary that I thought was missing was the part where Tarleton's cavalry defiantly refused to enter the battle at the turning point. While it may be disputed that the cavalry could have turned the tide... it was certainly an important reason why virtuallyl all the infantry were killed, wounded or captured by the Americans.
