Post subject: | 1758 Campaign |
I am playing this campaign with Steve Kitchen but liking it less and less. Here were the three scenarios we have played/are playing so far: 123.c-Fort Frontenac_b.scn, 24 Turns 135.c-Fort Oswego_a.scn, 48 Turns 188.c-Montreal_f.scn, 60 Turns First, my campaign choice of striking at the British middle was parried by Steve's move to Montreal but the campaign text didnt say what happened to my force that marched on Albany. What is the official answer on this one? Did they countermarch back to Montreal? Dissappear? Second, the last three scenarios have been a waste of time. In each case the French have no chance of winning. This kind of scenario is best left out of a campaign. The best thing the French can do in this case is just exit the board as soon as possible. Particularily in the Montreal - I spent a mere six to eight turns trading musket fire with the British and now will just exit the board. There is no way I can hold him for 60 turns from getting off of the board so why lose an army? My point is that while history does make for less than balanced situations these battles should NOT give the British such an easy task at the Major Victory. Minor perhaps but Draw should also enter the equation and even Minor Defeat for letting the enemy get away. The margin of victory in the scenarios in the EAW series needs to be wider. In only a few turns the margin can swing from a Major Defeat to a Major Victory in alot of cases. The exit hex in Montreal needs to be removed. It gives the British too large of an edge. Shorten the scenario as well as no Frenchman in his right mind is going to stick around for even 30 turns. |
