One was 996 while the other was 998 pounds. The same types of markings were on several of the authentic cannon strewn about Saratoga NHP with brass 4 pdrs. coming in at right about 500 pounds. The two field 12 pdrs. (captured from Burgoyne's siege train) in their visitors center came in around 2400 pounds. They were too long for naval guns so must not have been ones on loan from the navy. The same nucklehead ranger/historian that held my wife in such sway told me they were light 12s. Then I showed him how to read the weight and he said they he was mistaken and that they were mediums. Right. No Sir, these are siege guns from the battering train.<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote"> |
