Post subject: | Question about "sounds" in American Revolution |
OK, I know this may sound a little weird, but I didn't know where else I could post this kind of observation/question, and I figured one of you learned gentlemen may know the answer since we have re-enactors in the club. I have several movies about the American Revolution on dvd etc. But I noticed that many times in the movies the "sound" of the muskets never seem quite right. When I have attended re-enactments and heard the sound produced by the 'real' thing, they never sound like that in the movies. I realize that re-enactors would not be using ball cartridge but then they wouldn't in the movies either. The musket sounds in the movies always seems more like a "rifle bullet" sound or something a lot more powerful. While in a re-enactment the musketry sounds more like a 'sputter'. Is it a case of Hollywood just over dubbing to make the sound more 'realistic' but failing in the attempt? We all know that in the "Spaghetti Westerns" this sound technic is in full force but I was wondering why it appears in movies about the American Revolution as opposed to movies on the American Civil War where I have found the rifle muskets sound more like the real thing. Any comments appreciated. Private G. Collins Provincial Corps |
