Post subject: | CCC's Mission |
[ANOTHER NOTE: I have truncated this post, so that readers don't have to scroll miles to get to the next post!] [ NOTE! I have posted a clarification below. But i also wanted to edit this original post with one point: I **LOVE** army vs. army competition! My references to the contrary below were rhetorical only.... meant to highlight those who don't believe CCC should promote any rivalries in anyway. Now, back to our regularly scheduled broadcast (below). ] BRAINSTORMING NEW IDEAS: 1) Would CCC benefit by having a tennis-like seeding system, where beating veterans would add significantly to the scores of beginners and so on? 2) Would CCC benefit by having a "Superbowl" of Americans vs. British vs. Indians vs. French? (Not sure how that would work, but at least it would create a competitive AND collegiate atmosphere simultaneously). 3) Would CCC benefit if we junked the whole army concept completely? Let everyone fight it out for themselves? If this is a TERRIBLE idea, then I think we should embrace the very opposite: deliberately create a competitive scoring system between the various armies. Right now, we are neither hot nor cold. Light or heavy. We have teams. But we don't compete. We have generals, but we don't see who is winning and who is losing (we only count who is playing). 4) Instead of tracking people's "rank points" (blah), let's track the victory points generated by each combat! This would at least bring focus to the scenario in question (and how many points each side accumulates from all of CCC) ... instead of worrying about how many games someone played in a year. My apologies for a long post. But this material is very difficult to present in separate threads, and smaller posts. I also apologize for challenging aspects of CCC that some have probably seen as ESSENTIAL to the nature of CCC. But that was intentional. I manage a list on ancient bible history. It is dry. It is boring. And I have 600 members. We have battles, historic and fantastic. We have the glories of conquest and the agony of defeat. And our membership is under 100. If we are playing the engine to simply have fun ... there are lots of software out there (like Age of Empire III) that is more exciting to watch, and on one level, more "fun". But OUR engine is more precise. More disciplined. More analytical. And yet we squander its intrinsic quality by making it possible to use this capacity for analysis into a "daily journal of who won" - - but we don't want to know how MANY wins or losses a general has. My ideas and comments are probably useless. And stupid. But right now, I see CCC floating on without a mission.... and without a steadily growing membership. I would love to see that change.
