Can anyone tell me when the practice of naming, or referring to, British regiments after their colonels had effectivley ceased? At what point in time did other regimental naming practices, geographic or otherwise (i.e. "King's Own", "1st Staffordshire", or "Yorkshire West Riding"), come into use? |
