I would like to suggest two optional rulee which I think may enhance the historical flavor of playing Campaign 1776. I suggest that there should be a minimum number of 50 troops in line formation per hex in a combat zone.This restriction would avoid the situation where a unit of say 9 men can spread across a 40 yard frontage and " block " line of sight. It would help unhistorial deployments where a regiment spreads itself out like an elastic band to cover an unrealistic frontage in order to gain advantage. If the number of troops in line falls below 50 men then the player has to begin a withdrawal from that hex of say one hex per turn from the combat zone. I suggest a minimun of 30 men per hex in extended line deployed in a combat zone. This minimum would be sufficient to block LOS. Extended units that fall below this miniumum size due to attrition would be expected to withdraw to or behind friendly troops in line. I hope that these suggestions would help reinforce the employment of linear tactics, avoid unrealistic line of sight blockings and help avoid individual units ( squads ? ) roaming around combat zones. If anyone would like to playtest these optional rules then they would be most welcome. |
