Post subject: The Philadelphia Campaign: Your Reviews?

I recently completed Volume One and am now in the middle of Volume Two of Thomas McGuire's The Philadelphia Campaign. How many other club members have read these works and what are your opinions?

I read Washington's Crossing last October and was blown away! I'm still finding The Philadelphia Campaign a great read, but much less engrossing. The first-hand account, primary source format works fine for battle action, but I don't think it really works for the "bigger picture", strategic aspects of the subject. I also think it could have benefitted from a few more maps; I had to refer to other books to help me follow the strategic and progress of the action.

Bottom line: I am greatly enjoying the work and would heartily reccommend it. My slight dissapointment is probably primarily due to the fact that it came on the heels of my fantastic experience with Washington's Crossing.

Other opinions?
