Does anyone know of a web site that displays the accurate colors of the Massachusetts Continental Army Uniforms? I have done a lot of searching and have not found any good color charts. We have heard that the coat was navy blue and the facings were white for Mass. But we need to find out if there were any other colors such as red that was used in the waistcoat? Specifically, we are trying to get a sign painted that shows a local Captain in his Massachusetts Continental Army uniform and we are wondering if his rank would be associated with any insignia's other than the yellow or buff rosette? We assume that stripes were either not in use at that time or the officers were smart enough to keep stripes off their sleeves due to the possibility of getting picked off by sharpshooters. Any help greatly appreciated! |

Thanks, Ernie, all these are a big help. I had found all but the last and that is particularly interesting. Now I need to get my hands on a good book of uniform illustrations in color. |
