... March 1778, Nicholas with sixteen other of the Amoses in Harf Co, MD took the oath of allegiance to the American colonies. He was appointed by the Maryland Council of Safety, 14 May 1776 as an ensignof a company of militia in Harf Co belonging to the 8th Battlalion, Charles Baker, Capt. He was reappointed ensign in the same company by the House of Delegates on 9 Apr 1778 and served in the Jarretsburg Company, much of the duties of the Militia being to guard the shore line of the Chesapeake Bay. ------ Our 1st generation Amos bought 200 acres in 1715, and records indicate he was born in/near York, England... 1690's maybe. I'm Amos (11th generation), btw. There from the beginning. ![]() BTW, Amos Blvd in Baltimore is a family namesake. ![]() Maybe I should transfer back to the American Army and take up the 8th bn if it's available.... hmmmmm.... |

It is always interesting to trace these ancestors. On my wife's side, she has people that were on BOTH sides of the Revolutionary War. We have quite a bit of documentation on both the sides. These include various bills presented to the Continental Congress for the trip to Lexington, MA by a company (16 strong) of Minute Men. |
