Gentlemen, That was my thought when I decided to join the CCC. Scott Ludwig sent me a very nice greeting and asked if I thought I needed a training game. Training game,,,I don't need no stinking training game!!!! Well, I was wrong. How different each of the games play. My first game, my opponent was kind enough to offer some helpful hints. WOW, I didn't know that. Well as the game progressed, I found out that I should have played the training game just to open my eyes to the major and subtle differences in the games. If you are new to the club, play the training games and learn something. Maybe next time my ego will not stand in the way. A special thanks to Garry Cope for offering insight and great tips on playing. Now if I could only put it to use. |

Scott....it is sometimes hard to tell whether you'll need it or not. The engine does play very different than ACW & Napoleonics....remember these games are company level based.... ![]() I encourage folks to talk about tactics and stuff on the forum too. It is helpful to all. |

As Scott knows, I pushed back hard against training. He converted me. Totally worth the time to have someone take you through the CCC forum and help with the games. |

It is really a case by case basis and I try really hard to ask the right questions and gauge someone's experience. If they are new to the club type format completely it is often encouraged, especially with tips on how to navigate the Club and what not. As soon as I get off my duff, install Rise of Prussia and get Garry the scenario info for the forms, the sooner he can update them and then I'll create a guide to be posted here to help folks know how to fill them out. Especially since we have made some fields optional now. The other thing is I really try hard to explain the uniqueness of the armies in the Club and how joining one has an impact in the games sometimes. We are really unique as we have games that don't always have a specific army in them. The French are not in War of 1812, so they can battle anyone & any side and it'll be considered a battle and not a maneuver. Also the Indian Alliance has the hidden secret of being the most flexible. Even though folks can play any side of a game, people usually play their army if it is present. Well the Indian Alliance will have the option to play whatever side when it comes to a traditional game setup. I am now giving folks the option of what army they want to join and explaining these aspects instead of mandatorily sending folks some place. So just some thoughts on what we've changed in the training aspect of things to make it better for new recruits.... John has been a great help in adding in his thoughts as well as in conversation, I am writing things down I normally do automatically. So it commits the policy to writing. |
