Well not lost ... lets just say that the drive is "Financially Held Captive" at the moment! :frenchhappy:

One good thing ... I got my Wagram Expansion pack up on the SDC site, Steve Trauth sent me the zip file, and it has the spreadsheet in PDF so at least that data is available. I would like to get the Eckmuhl Expansion pack out eventually after I finish up with my last Nap. game project with John.

But the hard drive is repairable. Just dont have the funds for it right now.

Lol gotcha, I was never that great at tracking all the different Mods etc. If I didn't use them routinely, I forgot about them..... :frenchsalute:

As regards your repairable Hard Drive - have you got any other quotes ? - I cannot think there is only one 'repairer ' in the USA??

My options are few ... dont have a lot of money to keep sending it around to different folks.

Could someone do it cheaper? Sure. I think its a royal ripoff how expensive this process is.

However, I have no idea of he cost to have a staff, equipment so I wont pass judgement terribly ... it may be that it is a highly technical line of work.

Its worth the money to recover it. I dont have it right now so I am going to have to wait. Down to pennies at present and just hoping I ge t a job this week.

Here is what the invoice says:

(Read the text in this order: Item/Description/Discount/Total)

Cleanroom Service: Usage of cleanroom, mechanical tools and hard drive micro surgery. 0.00 499.00
Data Recovery (101GB to 1.99TB): File system scan and data extraction to working media or file server 0.00 199.00
Platter Damage: Physical cleaning or resurfacing of platters 0.00 599.00
Degraded Surface or Memory: Significantly increased imaging time 0.00 399.00
File System Corruption: Catalog file scan and reconstruction of file system 0.00 199.00
Donor Media: Non-refundable fee for replacement parts 0.00 199.00
Subtotal: 2,094.00
Shipping & Handling Charges 0.00
Adjustment - 0.00
Grand Total (USD) 2,094.00

Sorry for the formatting of the text. I copied it direct from a PDF file - the text was in a form.

I think its a royal ripoff. "Donor Media" sounds like they use materials from dead drives. ROFL - as in taking organs from a dead body.

That is from the manufacturer of the drive?
The prices for all the positions are maybe OK but all this sounds like a complete repair and restoration process and the question is, is that needed at all?
You may want to contact professional data recovery companies instead of the drives manufacturer to see what they can offer if you only want your data recovered.
Repairs on such a drive are a total waste of money unless it is needed to restore the data.

No, its not the manufacturer. Its a hard drive repair company.

The drive was dropped. Its not a warranty issue.

I am not sure that going to the manufacturer would be an option - that they do hard drive repair.

Anyway, I am broke and dont have money to ship it off at the moment to other folks.

End of topic guys.
