Fellow Generals,

In the near future, I am going to purchase my third HPS Napoleonic title (I currently have NRC and Jena). My question is that I want to play as the Italian Army (Napoleon's Allies with the Green and Red cornered Fag I think?). Is Eckmuhl the correct title to buy? If not, which of the other titles includes Napoleon's Allies from Italy or any Italian Army (Coalition Forces) for that matter? Thanks for your help in advance!!

Vive La Emperor!! 8)

Fred,
I have'nt HPS games, but to my knowledge of history, at Eckmuhl there were the French army, with their Bavarian and Württemberg allies.
The Italian army participated in the Battle of Wagram, Leipzig and in the Russian campaign (only the italian guard). The italians also participed in the wars of the third and fourth coalition, but is'nt in major battles.

Regards.

Thanks for the quick response Hugo. For players of the HPS series, are their Italian forces for either the coalition or French side in Wagram and or Eckmuhl???
Hugo, what Napoleonic games do you play?

Cheers!

Campaign Wagram has Piave and Raab, both with a lot of Italians on the French side. I believe there were Italians in the Battle of Wagram and there are Italians in many of the campaign scenarios..

Campaign Eckmuhl has Sacile and Soave....

Austerlitz has scenarios in Italy and four units of the Italian army are included (as at that time it was not large) in the Austerlitz/Moravian scenarios.

Eckmuhl has Sacile and Soave.
Wagram has Piave and Raab.
Both of those have more Italian army units in them than in Austerlitz. As was said before Eugene's Army of Italy is a distinct formation in the OBs.

Napoleon's Russian Campaign (NRC) has Eugene's IV Corps in Russia. This one and Wagram have the most Italians in the order of battle.

So far of the six games in the series four of them have Italians. Future games will include them as well. Three of my next four games will include them as well as in the Peninsular game (smaller amounts there but still there nonetheless) which another designer is working on.

Generals,

Thank you for the information about the Italians in the Napoleonic Wars. I must get going on some reading as my Napoleonic War history is obviously lacking. I think after these posts my best bet would be to go with Wagram. My next question is: Does anyone know where I could buy a used copy of this title that doesn't cost $ 50?

Thanks!

Hi, Fred!
The Napoleon's Italian armies is the interesting subject for me too.
Now, I'm in the creation process of a big custom WhatIf? scenario for 1813.ItalyCampaign:
the united Italian-Neapolitan army against the invaded Austrian Army of Italy and Russian expeditionary corps. I do it on the base of the large NRC's Twin Peaks map. The landscape reminds me the river Po valley of Northern Italy. :D
I even have the may be crazy idea to combine the Army of Kingdom of the Two Sicilies (that have mutinied against their tyrannous Bourbons and changed sides) with the rest of their compatriots. :P
How do you like it?
And I would like to play the scenario with the real Italian officers of NWC. Are you an Italian?

Vladimir,

Wow!! This sounds amazing. I would really like to get involved in helping you with this. How far along are you? Have you tested it yet? Italian, well I'm an American, but my mother was born in Sicily and my father is Irish, lol! Interesting combo, I know Haha! What Napoleonic title are you going to be using for this Italian Campaign what if?

Cheers!

Fred

PM or email me if you like.

Oh, Fred, I have the old talonsoft games. They are of John Tiler, too, but are the first that apparead. I like more than that of HPS (this is my personal opinion)... but the problem is that there are only three games: "Waterloo", "Prelude to Waterloo" (Ligny and Quatre Bras) and "Napoleon in Russia".

Someday I'll buy one of the HPS games.

Regards

"What Napoleonic title are you going to be using for this Italian Campaign what if?"

Hi, Fred!
As I wrote already, I use the NRC's "Twin Peaks" map cause of it reminds me the river Po valley in the Northern Italy.
I'll finish OOB file pretty soon (may be tomorrow) and start to put troops on map (I've made Unit Icons already) , and intend to make R&H PDT file. I play the historical way only.
If you wish to help, you could redo the map toponimica (location names) to "the Italian way" :)
according with some alike area in the valley, if you have the real area map of course.

Write me to vladimir1812@gmail.com
