Early evening finds the tavern pretty quiet. A few officers are sitting about drinking and chatting.

Marechals Corbin and Bardon are at their usual table by the fire chatting about some upcoming battle. A jug of fine red wine and plates of roast pheasant are also on the table.

The tavern door opens and General Kling enters carrying a sealed letter and solid wood box. He approaches the tabale.

"My apologies for interrupting Marechal Corbin but the emperor has requested you attend to this immediately"

He hands the letter to Marechal Corbin and places the box on the table.

Marechal Corbin opens the letter and reads it, raising an eyebrow. He hands the lettr to Marechal Bardon.

"About time" Marechal Bardon says between sips of wine

The letter reads:

His Imperial and Royal Majesty Napoleon I, By the Grace of God and the Constitutions of the Republic, Emperor of the French, King of Italy, Protector of the Confederation of the Rhine hereby confers the title of Marechal of Farnce
upon
General Roy Purcell,
commanding officer of V Corps d'Armée.

Hereafter General Roy Purcell shall be known as
Monsieur le Marechal Purcell
with all the rights and privileges thereof.

Monsieur le Marechal, salute!

Congratulations Roy!

It has been an honor to serve beside you upon the battle maps in the conflict with the Coalition arms, and I am sure you will bring further glory to L'Empereur's eagles!

Regards,

A red coated, Hanoverian Guardsman sits at his favorite table drinking Jagermeister with his men. He calmly watches the announcement of the creation of the newest Marechal in La Grande Armee.

“Ah, another fine Blue Bug Masher to add to our collection, fellows”, he says with a grin.

“Ja, mein General”, replies the green coated Commander of the Hanoverian Feld Jagers, “aber vas ist Farnce?” :o

Congratulations on a most prestigious accomplishment, Roy, even if it does mean that you must now fight for another country entirely.

Officers <Salute> Thank you very much for your kind words , Helga , please see that the cups of these fine officers do not run empty tonight.

General Kling, you may need your recruitment papers ready as once our allied friends get a taste of fine french wine they may be lining up to swell the ranks of the Grande Armee.

Thank you again - I am totally surprised and totally honored

Still waiting on the day when you receive your baton, my friend. You have long ago earned it, irrespective of the points.

But you still look marvelous, sir. Nothing cuts a finer military figure than a British officer in a scarlet coat. :o :D

Marechal Purcell, I must thank you for the fine wine, sir! It is of most excellent quality. You might even entice me to defect, assuming of course that you can drink me under the table first. I will warn you though, Hanoverian officers are well known for their robust constitutions, particularly as it applies to the consumption of alcoholic beverages.

And being full of themselves!! They usually start under the table and that is why no one can drink them under it! Or they start singing and drive everyone else out of the Tavern.

Battle On Roy, Battle On...
