Naw, Ernie just needs to adjust his hearing aid! :russianveryhappy:

Thanks for the heads up on this. I dont get tv/cable here. Wondering if it will air on the internet. Otherwise I will wait for it to come to DVD and watch it that way.

I saw some of it...I liked the casting (especially Pierre and the Bolkonski's) and I think they tried to capture the disorientation and brutality of the battles. What do you guys think?

It was pretty good I thought Jim. It disturbed me to see the large ants scurrying amongst the dead at Austerlitz as they should have been chilling deep underground during the cold weather. :frenchshock:

The heat of battle and the chance for a hot meal drew them out?

Ugh.

We have recorded the series so far but have yet to watch any of it. It certainly had good reviews in the tv magazines and is clearly a lavish and expensive production.

There are some visible lapses, gentlemen, indeed.
At the filming of 1805 Campaign's scenes, they used a lot of Russian re-enactor groups but ...
in the 1810-12 period uniforms.
The ball's uniform of Prince Bolkonskij looks just masqueradely.
Dolokhov fought in 1805 as a private. He was degraded for his duel with Count Bezukhov.
The episode with the heroic stand of Captain Tushin's battery at Schengraben is completely indistinct. But it is one of the most bright and interesting in book.
L'Empereur looks like a some banal Italian harlequin.
Etc., etc., etc.

The series starts a bit later in the DEEP South, on Feb 11. Should be good.

We saw the first episode yesterday on catch up. We were disappointed. I've not read the book so can't compare; I preferred the original series. The battle scenes were realistic enough but we thought the acting a bit stiff and overall lacked any atmosphere. Anne disapproved of the various - if rather fleeting- scenes of gratuitous nudity  . Is the scene of sibling incest true to the book? We (she) deleted the rest.
