Ok - time for you guys to pull out your copy of Campaign Leipzig and play some of the August battles! Dresden, Gross-Beeren, Katzbach, etc. :)

Perhaps its worth to wait a bit.
4.07 is coming out shortly and apparently artillery firing out of squares has been addressed.

Interesting to see how they addressed the firing of guns out of squares. Its not really going to change how many of us play. We will still use squares in the front line to stop the cavalry charges but put the guns further back. Only infantry can really defeat a square in combat.

I think one of the big things would be to say that a Disordered square is LESS effective in deterring a charge. If they did that then just turn OFF the Multiple Cavalry Melee rule in the game and that way infantry cannot melee the square with cavalry following up to hit it again. I know I would play with that rule OFF if that happened. I think that if a Disordered Square loses a melee that it should have a higher chance of routing too. That would deter many of us from forming square as an effective means of stopping a combined arms force.

But yes, the 4.07 update is due out but not til the end of the year. I do not see that square/artillery rule stopping us from firing up a Bautzen scenario.

Stacking a battery with a square will be punished heavily so yes, players will be putting batteries further to the back which is historical and less deadly to the attacking force. They also halved the losses of cavalry vs square which now makes sense to melee with cavalry just to get it disordered at relatively low cost.

You mean end of this month (Aug)?

Just kicked off a Lutzen scenario (May not August I know), good call though, I'll bear it in mind for any new games this month

You just HAD to be contrary, Jim! Oh wait, I meant to say, "good choice of battles!"

:russianveryhappy:

My Battle of Konigswartha, #034 from Campaign Bautzen, is underway with Marco Rietveldt so I violated the "Fall Guy" rule too.

Bill,
I would argue that Campaign Bautzen might have the highest number of balanced scenarios. Pretty much every scenario gives each side a chance to win.

Jim - had never heard that. I have not played a lot of them in the club. Just the big battles, Konigswartha and maybe a couple of others.

This is good to hear. Wonder what the club stats (and those of The Blitz) are for them?
