While I ate my dinner tonight, I watched this YouTube video on The Battle of Leipzig:

https://youtu.be/P9hDA0u6FO0

I thought they did a good job of going over the events before, during and after the battle. They did not specify why the 2nd Day was more or less a day of rest leaving out that the rain fell making the field muddy. I caught other minor points that they left off.

As I watched the events on the southern part of the battlefield I got the idea that we could have added in several more scenarios which would be about the battle for the villages of Wachau and others. They also mention how ditches in the fields in the south made it difficult for Murat's troopers to advance. We do not have ditch terrain in the Napoleonic Battles series but perhaps a hedge or stream terrain could work for those with the latter probably being the better choice.

I would welcome comments on the video. Do you see something that they left out or were in error on?

I am going to watch more of these kinds of videos with dinner. I like to watch engineering videos too such as the building of bridges (Brooklyn, SF Bay Bridge, Golden Gate Bridge). I always marvel at the length of the cable used in those projects.

One thing that I came away from after watching the Leipzig video is how, still to this day, there is really not a great volume in English on this battle. Nafziger's third volume on the campaign is good but I think a full volume is needed to fully document what went on and more detail is needed over and above what George wrote in his work. I owned Digby-Smith's volume and it was just not up to the quality we expect of a good book on this mammoth battle of the Napoleonic Wars.

I wish I had the resources available to write such a volume. It will have to go to someone with more ability than I to do such a work.

As a kid I would have loved that kind of thing. And my parents would have hissed at me every time I asked for more figures.
