It is with profound Trauer (sorrow) that the Austrian ranks receive the news of Clint's passing. Today, the rivalries of the map are put aside, and the virtual battlefields fall silent in honor of a true master of war. It seems that the French Emperor has lost one of his finest Eagles, and we in the Coalition have lost a truly magnificent adversary. We salute the man behind the uniform. A devoted family man, a coach, and a pillar of his community for over half a century. Our deepest sympathies and prayers go out to his wife, his children, and his grandchildren. The drum beats the Letzter Zapfenstreich (The Last Post / Taps) for a great commander. May he find eternal rest in the final bivouac. Ruhe in Frieden. (Rest in peace.) |

A most fitting tribute to such an exemplary servant of l'Empereur. His name will be etched into l'Arc de Triomphe as a testament to his service on behalf of France. I was never privileged to have shared the field of honour with Clint but, I knew his name and how the mere whisper of it terrified the officers of the Anglo-Allied Army. Though I did not know him personally, I mourn the passing of a fallen comrade in arms. My thoughts are with Clint's wife, children and extended family at this sad time. Sleep well Général Matthews. Rest in Peace Clint |

In remembrance and honour of Général Clint Matthews, Duc de Stockach et Engen, who served with distinction and courage since 2012. His name and example will endure in our ranks. |

Very, very sorry to hear of Clint's passing. He was a real mainstay for the French army and active on the forums. I now wish I had played him in a game to get to know him better. RIP Clint. You will be missed here and I know very much in your family. |

I am saddened to hear of is passing. He was such an enthusiastic player and he loved to play the big, long games. I know he had been enjoying his retirement and that was cut too short. |
