Fellow Officers,

Across both the Allied and French Armies, we all share the same goal — a strong, active, and enjoyable club. Bringing new players in is vital, but ensuring they stay engaged, confident, and improving is where we really secure that future.

One of the biggest hurdles for new members is their first few games against experienced opponents. The jump in ability and familiarity with the rules can be daunting, and without the right support it’s all too easy for enthusiasm to fade. We’ve all experienced that learning curve ourselves.

To help address this, I’m launching a cross-army “Grandfather” Scheme — and I’m asking for volunteers from both Allied and French players.

What’s the idea?
We’re looking for experienced players to “grandfather” new members during their early games. This would involve:

Playing a manoeuvre game with them
Talking through decisions, tactics, and rules
Creating a supportive, learning-focused environment
Helping build confidence and enjoyment of the system
This isn’t about going easy — it’s about developing capable, confident opponents who will strengthen the club as a whole.

Why it matters
Supporting new players benefits everyone:

A larger pool of opponents
Better quality, more competitive games over time
A healthier, more sustainable club
Today’s recruit is tomorrow’s seasoned opponent.

What I’m asking
If you’re willing to volunteer as a “Grandfather,” please send me an email at quatrebras67@googlemail.com to confirm your interest.

Even committing to a small number of games can make a real difference to a new player’s experience.

Let’s work together — across both armies — to ensure the club remains not just competitive, but welcoming, supportive, and thriving.

As Allied Training Centre staff, it is my duty to step forward and sign up. Count me in.

Thanks Alexey, much appreciated Sir!

I can also conform that Andy Moss has stepped forward. A few more gallant officers willing to support our new members would be much appreciated.

Hi Mike, your “Grandfather” proposal is excellent—very constructive and important for all new players.

Maybe we can formalize this as "Aide de Camp"ing instead of "Grandfather"ing - at any rate, I emailed you :)

This is a fantastic idea!

Mike has been working on this for a little bit and has the support of both sides of the club.

Helping to share information, tips & experience to benefit newer officers, will benefit us all in the long run. If you're interested in helping, please send Mike a message.

Maybe we can get some folks who play multiplayer games to help out with the unique experience of those.

Thanks again Mike! :frenchvive1: :frenchsalute: :frenchcool
