After a month in a military service can't help asking a question. Nowdays (in our army) people use socks or foot wraps (depending on their personal choice) under their boots. But what was used in late 18th - early 19th century?

BTW foot wraps are realy cool things. Only the men who used them had a healthy feet. And with socks people usually had bloody corns within a couple of days.[:I]

I always thought that people tend to have nails and mud under their boots ... [:I]

O-o-o! My congratulations on successful graduation from military camps. For me this was the best rest I’ve ever had – complete freedom of mind.
Now about clothes worn under boots in Napoleonic armies.
The French army worn stockings.
The Russian army worn both puttees (onutchi) and stockings.
Another interesting detail about shoes of Napoleonic armies: the pair of boots had no difference between left and right, both boots were the same and they became fit to the foot only during wearing.
