Post subject:  Austrian vs Russian Battle instead of Maneuver?

Okay, I have found that my beloved Austrians have sent a Corps to help good old Nappy in 1812 into Russia.

In this battle, if I play the French and fight a Russian, should this not be a battle?

It is essentially the <b><font color="orange">VII Saxon Corps</font id="orange"></b> & <b>Austrian Corps</b> vs. <b><font color="green">Russian 3rd Army</font id="green"></b>.

Your thoughts on this strange twist?

Sir,
it ONLY depends on the opposite army commander you are playing here. All games against member of the same "side" (Allied in your/my case) is being considered "manoeuvre" ("training" if he comes from the same army), while crossing swords with member from "opposite camp" (french in your/my case) will make this game a "fight/battle", whatever the army you currently command on the battlefield ...

Yes, but at this point in time I am not Allied with the Russians, I am fighting them, so my Allies are the French, not the Russians.

Why would I fight a Frenchman if my Army is working with them? What Frenchman is going to want to play the Russians, and why would I play Russian when my Austrians are fighting for them?

This is not one unit we are talking. But a whole Army.

I think in special circumstances such as this the rule should be as it is in the battle.

Why should club members be penalized for playing as in history?

How many real exceptions are out there?

Who is the live human being you are playing? Is he a member of the French Army? If yes then your fight is a battle. If not then your fight is a manuever. This is strictly club administrivia for passing out the points. The determination of battle vs manuever is completely unrelated to what armies are involved in the game itself. [:D]

That proves to me that the CCC has a better sytem in place.

They have 4 Armies and only if you play your Army is it a maneuver.

And if the Spanish had a Army in this club, I think they would argue the same as they fought on both sides.

How about this, I transfer to the AdR for a month, fight my battle, then return to Austria! ha, that should work. [;)]

Why not just find yourself a French officer who will play the Russians?

Dierk,

That is illogical. How can I ask a Frenchmen to play a Russian. I cannot do it, in '12 they are my allies. I want to fight the Russians!

So, when '12 comes around I am fighting with the French, so no one try to stop me!

I have got 7 years to convince you! [;)]

Aaron,

I have a place in I Corp if you wish to leave the effeminate Austrians and join the Emperor's finest! You get to fight Russians all the time! Plus you can deal with the shopkeepers and untrustworthy Prussians to boot!

Vive Le Emperor!

Guess I can't see why it should be important which army your opponent belongs to, other than to make sure this is a battle so you get full points? So if you pick a Frenchman to play the Russians, you can fight as the French and still get full points. What more can you want?

There's only one army that won't collaborate with the French ... unless we're talking about Napoleon III and the Crimean War.

Dierk,

Really it isn't the points. I will play a Russian even if a maneuver. What I want is the passion of a Russian defending the homeland.

How many French players will give a rats xxx about playing the Russians?

Very few I imagine. Just not the same.

It is that extra element of pride and passion that I want, not just a opponent for the points.

Anyways, I wasn't being too serious here, just stirring the pot a little.[:D]

Yes, in the Panzer club you can play any side you want. Doesnt matter what nationality you are in the club.

Oh yeah, CCC followed suit when we added in the Indians and French as separate armies.

But its been that way in the Panzer club since the get go.
