Guys - on the skirmisher overrun rule - John put in an option so that you can turn it off if you like. We just finished hashing this out. Unique terrain types were discussed such as chateau hexes but in the end Rich, John and myself feel that giving the player the option to turn off the rule is best.

Thanks a lot Rich. Much appreciated.
Will ongoing games be ok after applying the patch, or will the new files mess up the weather settings?

On going games should be fine...I created new PDT files and then altered all the scenario files to point to them, so I wouldn't mess a bunch of people up. You'll get the new weather settings once new scenarios are started.

Goodness, you just made my day. I have been waiting for this for years, literally. A feature that I use practically every third mouse-click hidden in a pulldown menu with not even a toolbar button, that was really too much. [xx(]

Thanks Rich. The K key is a big help. Talked with John about this some time back - well have talked to John about alot of things some time back! [:D][:D]

You made it happen - that is all that matters!

Big thumbs up on the patch working for current games!

Patch for Eckmuhl and Wagram out soon. Just sent the files off to John today. Look for them within two weeks is my guess.

What exacxtly is the optional rule that prevents retreats from overrunning skirmishers? This isn't a return to the bad old days of Bg is it where the damned things are used to trap and zoc large formations of infantry?

Yet again I am an echo "THANK YOU"
Now for the stupid question, after I have updated to 1.01 can I just drop the Expansion Pack refered to by Bill into the game, or do I need another installation[8)]

Jim - neither the patch nor the Expansion pack have a certain order for their addition to your game. Neither do you have to make a second install.

So patch or unzip the Expansion pack in any order. Neither overwrites files of the other.

Jim,

Yep, Bill is correct, you can just drop it in your main install. I made a specific effort to make sure it wouldn't cause any problems.

Enjoy!

Rich &/or Bill,

With regard to the skirmisher overrun rule, the problem that I and at least quite a few others had with it was more routing units overrunning skirmishers in the woods and such, not the fact that a retreating non-routed battalion of 800 men could crush 75 skirmishers in their path. It seems that the option to just turn off the rule goes a bit too far -- it eliminates the benefit of making players be reasonable in their use of skirmishers which was a good thing about the rule. Again, my problem was that a routing unit could take out a skirmish line in the woods, or a village. My personal preference would be forcing a melee between the retreating unit and the skirmisher -- if the retreating unit (modified as it normally would be for disorder, rout, isolation, etc.) wins then the skirmisher is pushed aside with appropriate losses and the retreat or rout continues. I realize, of course, that that is a programming issue, but since the melee program is already written it shouldn't be terribly difficult. Anyway, this is what I want and (speaking as someone that only owns Eckmuhl at the moment -- although I ordered Waterloo and am wondering if it shipped by carrier pigeon by way of Siberia) would be more inclined to pay for.

Loaded the patch and for the third turn running (the 388 turn big battle) have heavy rain and mud, whereas before it was brilliant sunshine. Pretty grim; columns of wet, annoyed infantry trudging through teeming rain. At this rate, I cuoldn't reach the exit points even if there were no Allied forces in the way.

Not sure if this is a likely outcome under the probability given to weather, so I thought I'd ask.
