My opponent (Colin Knox) and I have a question. After re-reading the manual, we (I, really) am confused about on easpect of the cavalry charge in HPS games.

Does the Charge multiplier apply vs. all cavalry, some cavalry, or no cavalry?

I was always confused by how it reads in the manual but from practice it seems like when you charge cavalry you still get the bonus.

thanks,

Sir,

No, it's not. If you attack the stack composed completely of cavalry of course. But if you are unlucky to have 5 man strong disordered skirmrisher there, leave alone solid infantry unit or arty (unlimbered for sure, I doubt about limbered) the bonus will be applied. It's simple to find this out. Just start a scenario in local mode with both sides managed manually and reproduce the situations in question - the odds will be revealed.

Hope it helps[:)]

I just did a Eckmuhl test scenario guys and I had one Allied skirmisher stacked with two squadrons of Allied cavalry opposed by some French cav.

The attacking (Charging) French cavalry were not tripled.

This was possible in NIR/BGW/PTW but not in the HPS games.

If you can show that the attacking cav are tripled would you please let me send me a game file to wmp3662@yahoo.com. Thanks.

Jim,

In the HPS games:

1) There is no multiplier in cav vs. cav charges;
2) Cav do NOT get the multiplier if a skirmisher is stacked w/cav;
3) Cav DO get the multiplier if formed inf or arty is stacked w/cav

Oh, really it's not. But in the presence of a skirmisher the stack is considered as mixed, not pure cavalry and hence it can be meleed by infantry. That's what I mistok it for [:I]
