![]() Just a question: will we do another review of the Optional rules for ver 4.04 soon or are the OR recommendations complete here for the newest versions? Gary |

4.04 didn't add any new OR so recommendations are up-to-date. |

I tend to follow the OR that Rich Hamilton (WDS) recommended to me. Seems most folks follow these OR. ![]() |

Movement threat disorder pretty much destroys any ability to make an attack. |

My experience is they fall apart the minute you try and advance. |

I think the probability got turned down with a recent patch, but problem is still that it works with range and not with LOS. So any obstacle that covers a threat or keeps it from reaching you can still cause a disorder with this rule, and that doesn't make much sense to me. But if that gets changed maybe the rule could be considered. |

It was always too sensitive for me. I had an entire cavalry regiment disorder before a couple of infantry columns that they would have slaughtered. That was it for me. I like the general idea of it. Another thing I wish could be addressed- When a brigade has suffered over 50% casualties they should basically lose their ability to attack. There has to be some mechanism where you can't just keep throwing troops into combat who have basically been decimated. |

For those that a either rather new here or just generally unsure what to think of my recommendations I just wanted to point out that my OR set differs in just 5 points from the current default set. These are: Manual Defensive Fire off by default Seems to me that WDS still prefers turn gameplay instead of phased gameplay although phased gameplay seems to be more realistic and with automatic defensive fire the number of mails need to be exchange for a turn is also not higher compared to turn gameplay. I suggest to turn this rule ON. Night Movement Fatigue off by default Well here one must point that the very few night engagements or engagements that run deep into the night may not work out as intended with this rule, but such battles are special and need further adjustment of the ORs. In multi-day battles this rule should be ON so that the night is truly different from the day, and generally there is no problem using this rule unless the circumstances are special. I suggest to turn this rule ON. Column Movement Restriction off by default As the column formation in game usually stands for everything else but line it can be understood that this rule is not ON by default as it encompassed all kinds of column formations. But generally one must understand that a column entering obstructed terrain not along proper pikes/roads/paths and so enters it without any difficulty gives the column an edge in battle that seems too much as such special terrain is usually the playground of skirmishers. I suggest to turn this rule ON. Partial Retreats off by default The bottleneck theory is nice but still I think that with various formations in a hex at least some would get way. Historical units even tried to cross rivers by swimming so all options for escape are on the table and it does seem more realistic that at least some would get away. I suggest to turn this rule ON. Line Movement Restriction off by default Not much to say here because everyone should be aware that it is hard to keep a line intact when advancing, that was the nature of the line. And just to be clear, this rule just allows for a chance to disorder and this chance is further modified by the quality of the unit, B and above are less likely, D and below more likely to disorder when moving in line. So this rule not only simulates the problem of moving a unit in line formation, it further take quality into account. I suggest to turn this rule ON. |

Haven't found time to check, but I think it's save to say that on the latest patch level 4.09 the new OR "Push skirmishers " should be used. Getting rid of those blocking skirmishers is something the community always wanted and now we have and it's surely worth a try. |
