Morning all. The Battle of Eylau is my "favorite" Napoleonic battle, although I hesitate to use "favorite" with regards to such a bloodbath. Still, as Napoleon'c first serious check, and fought in a blizzard, and marked by Murat's amazing charge and the resilience of the Russian infantry, it's fascinating.

There's not been a lot of work done on the battle - Petre covered in his "Napoleon's Campaign in Poland," using mainly French and some German sources. James Arnold's "Crisis in the Snows" is incredible, and Alex Mikaberidze has assembled a volume of Russian accounts his "Russian Accounts" series.

I'm happy to report that Mikaberidze is planning to write a book, and is currently negotiating with a publisher regarding same, The book would be out next year. As anyone who has read his volumes on Borodino and Berezina knows, he is a first-rate historian who has fully mastered the Russian (and French and German) sources, so this is incredibly good news. There's not enough books in English that approach the wars from the Russian perspective, in my very humble opinion.

That would be fantastic. His 3 volumes on the war of 1812 are amazing. Also, do you listen to the Age of Napoleon Podcast? His next episode, due out Tuesday, will be on Eylau. Also the Napoleonic Wars podcast (formerly known as the Napoleonicist) has Mikaberidze on a lot. The guy is hilarious.

Amazing, thank you! I didn't know such a thing existed, but I'll definitely look for this (I assume it's on the Apple podcast lineup. Mikaberidze is a nice guy - he respond to emails. And he is almost my neighbor, being in Louisiana.
