I am just curious, why is there a need for monthly musters. I realize a muster is needed to show who is active, but wouldn't a quarterly muster do just as well?

My two cents

Well Rich, since it's been a week since you posted I thought I'd make my support for your proposal known.

Maybe this can be put to a membership vote or a poll conducted?

I am not the person that should be answering your question because I've been out of the loop too long. Maybe my answer will spur on someone with more recent experience with this topic to correct what I'll say.

For those who may not know, if you operate the websites, emails, phone calls, and data/spreadsheets that the people behind the scenes in the club have to do, mustering is an absolute necessity. I didn't see any objection to mustering in your post but just how often it must occur. This topic has raised its head throughout the club's history. There have been numerous attempts to muster every quarter in lieu of every month. They all failed to generate sufficient numbers of people mustering, plus if someone disappears and doesn't muster, do you keep them on the active roster and flood their inboxes for requests to muster for another quarter or two quarters? In lieu of that, mustering has been made as easy as possible. Mustering takes me less than 60 seconds every month. You've got to be pretty stubborn to let that stand between you and hours of fun.

I hope that helps.

Sorry, just now noticed this.

As Ned said, Mustering is an essential part of the Club's admin duties so we know "who is here." We debated monthly vs. quarterly for many years until finally, earlier this year, the Club voted to make it monthly in the Club Rules. In the end, whether we did it monthly or quarterly, some people always preferred the other. I preferred quarterly but often found myself in the minority on that one. In the end, as Ned said, it equals about 20 - 60 seconds a month to click the mustering button. Members are allowed to miss musters and "technically" can get by mustering just four times a year (at least once every three months to maintain their active status). But the AC's (and GinC's) always prefer people muster regularly just as a courtesy.

Overall Club mustering numbers often hover above 80%. During a good month the club will hit 90% or better.

Fair enough, thanks for the replies.
