yea, native Florida swamp critters are disappearing like the Florida swamps themselves {sigh} Fyi, I'm not a seasonal snowbird/retiree but permanent resident since 1980 and still working. Now that I think it, I only lived in "Nu Yawk" for approx 16 years whilst growing up but have lived in Georgia & Florida for the last 30 years. Hmmm, so what the hell am I - a Johnny Rep or Billy Yank?? Sheez, confused - that's what I am! An interesting question: where do one's regional loyalties lie? With the place of your birth or where you've spent your formative youth or where you've lived most of your adult life?

At the risk of drivin' Ye inta the grasping arms of the Union . . I'd suggest that Ye should enlist with the side Yer Family forebearers fought fer! [:p] Familial loyalties would add an extra "flavour" to the Battles for Ye. [8D]

If'n Ye don't know which side they were on (if any) . . . . an innerestin' project awaits Ye! [:o)]

That said . . I'm Irish born 'n' bred 'n' had no-one to boast of . . . fightin' in the ACW. I plumped fer the Confederacy . . against most of my Countrymen of the Era - because they the {CSA} were in the Right and I always root fer the Underdawg!!! [:D]

Seeing as Ye call Fla. home right now and Ga. before . . . m'be Ye better jine the CSA? Keep the neighbours happy? And defend yer Hearthstone? Us Rebs might be short of Shoes . . but we ARE Gentlemen . . . not like summa those Northeren "Gennelmen"!!!!! [}:)]

Indeed, I'm currently playing it for the 1st HACW tournament. The annual reenactment falls this coming weeked - the 17th to 19th. I plan to attend on Sunday for the large battle, though it is a bit further away now than it was when I was growing up ten minutes away and could hear the cannons over the weekend in my front yard while not in attendance... [:D]

Not so! There are many of us Suthrons still holding out in the interior and norhtern half of the state. Once you get away from the coastline or norht of Orlando you can find true Florida still in existence. The greater Miami area (aka Havana north, aka Haiti north aka Little Cuba aka etc. etc. etc.) is of course a lost cause. [:(]

But those of us "crackers" and "rednecks" who survive carry on the fight against Yankee invasion daily as we drink our sweet tea and eat our grits. [:D]

Set me up a plate of them grits, sausage pattys, eggs and chase it down with a tall sweet tea[:)]. In fact, I've got two grits at home.Grits (girls raised in the south)[:p]. Also when you get north of Virignia and west of Lousiana people don't know what sweet tea is, they look at you funny[;)]when you ask for it
