Colonial Campaigns Club (CCC)

When fighting on the open field (the same elevantion of hexs, the same terrain hexs) and our great commanders with thier keen eyes for battle and looking glass in hand (telescope) then why can you not see troop strength of enemy or when you are engaged with the enemy side by side you still do not see strength or how many men are in unit 5X?= WHAT. I'm looking right at them they are in my face. How come I can not tell how many men are in the opposing force??[;)] Also cannon do they have to be on the front lines to fire at the enemy if the LOS is obscured from a clump of trees or a structure of some type I understand, but when a troop of men are in front of the cannon it can not shoot over there heads to another hex 5 or 10 away on the advancing forces?[?][?][?] Correct me if I'm wrong please.[:)]
